40 Minutes

I found this video when looking at Barack Obama's website today. It is 40 minutes long and is worth every second of it. Please take time and watch it.

Click--> Faith and Politics

This and other events that have transpired makes me think the 2008 elections could be a huge turning point for the United States. Democrats are expressing and showing what their faith is to them and how it will effect their time in office. The conservative agenda is being less associated with the "Christian" agenda because people are matching up politicians' actions with the life of Jesus and seeing Jesus, surprisingly, wouldn't be a conservative. People are realizing that abortion and gay marriage are not the only moral issues we need to look at. We now realize we have a part to play in environmental stewardship, the HIV/AIDS crisis, poverty, and many other important issues. The United States is realizing, it seems, that in a global world we cannot sit back and watch the events in the world play out. I am very excited to see the good that good come of it.

Jeremy,

Let me commend the fact that you are thinking about issues. In response to your blog, I do have some thoughts.

"Jesus would not be a conservative." Perhaps you are correct but he wouldn't be a liberal either, would he? He would agree with conservatives that abortion and homosexuality are both horrible sins. He would agree with liberals that we should be concerned about suffering in the world. But He, most likely, would not allow Himself to be classified with either. His forte was compassionately and forcefully (see the Pharisees) pointing out sin wherever He saw it (see Sermon on the Mount, et al).

I suppose the thing that does cause me a bit of concern about your blog is that you are simply quoting, in basically the same exact words, the statement "abortion and gay marriage are not the only moral issues we need to look at...and many other important issues" that so many who are unquestionably in the liberal camp. The problem I have with those folks is that they don't want to talk about abortion or homosexuality.
To quote the words of Jesus in a similar context, we should be concerned about the other issues you mention "without neglecting the other."
I do hope and pray that Christians will be concerned about all the issues that concern our Lord.
Keep thinking and always let your mind be renewed by the Word of God.

I think Obama had a lot of really good things to say in this speech. It was neat to hear the story of his faith and to hear him say that these social justice problems come from within us all. It is our sinful, selfish nature that brings about these things.

Its neat to see the push for social justice. Obama seems to really put his faith out there while showing that his faith is not the only view . To work towards these things in a political realm someone leading has to embrace the things that are common to us all and use those to bring forth justice. I think Obama is really pushing for that and i like it. This was just a really interesting video. Its hard to take in all that he said. I want to hear what others think.
